2017 Ford Focus Electric

Description:

*******THIS IS AN ELECTRIC CAR!!!********

Don't worry about the high island gas prices- over $5 a gallon! Malama our 'Aina (respect the land) with our Ford Focus Electric. With approximately 100 mile range, depending on your driving, uphill amount, and use of the ac/heater, the car is great to get around the island. You can travel to Waimea and back without a charge. There are several quick charging stations around the island.

Child friendly and pet friendly! We only ask that you please clean up after. ***Note: This means there have been dogs and kids in the car (although thoroughly cleaned), if anyone is severely allergic to either, you might want to pass.

We will include a standard wall plug to use to charge the car, too. If your place has a higher voltage charger (dryer plug, etc), we have a few options we can discuss. Otherwise, you can charge at any of the quick charge stations.

1) The car will be provided with 100% charge, please return over 90% charged or purchase the recharge option.

2) The car has cold AC and heater, if needed.

3) Android Auto and Apple Car Play for music and navigation.

4) 1 child and 3 adults fit comfortably, or 4 adults. 5 Adults or 4 Adults with 1 child may be a squeeze.

5) We can provide trunk organizer if requested for free, but it does reduce the space available.

We are located approximately 20 minutes from the airport and can drop off the car for a fee. Usually, this is going to be either on the weekends or after 4pm.  Pickup at the farm can occur at any time.

We are available for any questions about the island or the car. If you have any additional pet or child items you might require, let us know and we may be able to provide them.

Notes on the Island Charging Infrastructure:

Hilton Waikoloa Beach has free charging.

The 110v charger is very slow for charging. It can take up to 24 hours to charge on it. If you know the place you're staying has a faster plug, I can provide the rapid charger. The fast chargers from HECO take approximately 30 minutes to charge.

Level 2 chargers can be 6-8 hours here, depending on the charger- some are 2-4 hours some are 6-8.

Being on an island, we do sometimes have issues with some of the charging infrastructure for the fast chargers. They can be broken at times, and I am unable to keep an up-to-date list of which ones are having issues. If I hear from a previous guest, I will share the information!

Range Notes:

Making it across island to Hilo on Saddle Road can be hit or miss. Some people have made it, but others have ran out of charge. We would suggest that you go up to Waimea and then across since it's mostly the crazy elevation change that's the problem.

The range estimator in the car is really bad for estimating range on un-level ground.

On level ground, you should be able to get about a mile for each percentage point. Going up hill, the car rapidly changes it's mind about how much distance is left. Assuming you are not making the entire trip uphill, you would be fine.

If you are driving long distances up hill you can expect about .5 miles per percentage and 1.5 downhill. This, of course, changes based on the degree of elevation change.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. How far can I get on a charge?

Approximately 100 miles. Potentially longer if you don't run the AC, use the regenerative braking.

2. How do I charge?

There are plenty of quick charge stations around the island. There is a HECO fast charge station in Kona. We will provide a regular house plug charging kit. We can also provide a higher voltage plug, if requested.

3. Can I reach Volcanoes National Park?

We have had guests go up to Waimea -> Hilo -> Volcanoes, charging along the way and coming through the south side of the island and charging in South Point. The reverse should be possible Kona -> South Point -> Volcanoes, but we haven't tried personally.

4. Do you offer a child car seat?

Yes, for an extra fee.  Please ask about weekly rates.

5. Do you offer Kama'aina discount?

Yes, please ask for details! You must present a valid Hawai'i license to receive the discount.

6. Are pets allowed?

Yes, with some restrictions and an additional fee. Service animals are always free, of course!
